Rothenburg ob der Tauber

Rothenburg ob der Tauber is Germany's best preserved medieval walled city, and is a highlight stop of any trip through Bavaria.  We explored cathedrals and carvings, medieval crime and punishment, undertook a scavenger hunt through the beautiful cobblestones streets, and walked the ramparts of the city after dark, just like the medieval night watchmen would have done.

No, it's not the entrance to German Disneyland!  This is one of the gates to the walled city.

Looking out over the valley where the Tauber river flows.

Lots of pictures here.

In front of the Church of St. Jacob.

They deserved it.

As did they.

Olivia and Emily smile even when facing harsh medieval punishment.

Chanel and Megan - not a hair out of place.

Contemplating the Iron Maiden - a punishment reserved specifically for women, who got the brunt of the torture handed out by the superstitious medieval "justice" system.

The last face you will ever see...

Some of the students and parents joined us on an optional night time walk of the ramparts around the city.

Sam gives up?

The night watchmen of Rothenburg, safely returned from defending the city.
